A Dreamlike Forest in a Child’s Room: Hand-Painted Panno Mural in Limassol

I got a phone call from a friend: "I have a Russian family who would like to have wall painting at their children's room. Can you do that? But, you need to know - they are not easy clients,...." my friend said and we started to think about the sketch... it took us almost 2 months to prepare it and to got the confirmation....

Now home in Limassol, a child’s bedroom has been transformed into a timeless and enchanting woodland escape.

The feature wall is adorned with a custom panno mural, painted entirely by hand and inspired by the elegant and historic style of Toile de Jouy—a motif famously embraced by DIOR in both fashion and interiors.

Inspired by the Classic Elegance of Toile de Jouy

The mural draws direct inspiration from Toile de Jouy, a decorative style that originated in 18th-century France, known for its delicate pastoral scenes and monochromatic palette. DIOR has famously revived and reimagined this style in its collections and boutiques, often depicting intricate forests, wildlife, and countryside settings in soft, dreamlike tones.

This project pays homage to that refined aesthetic. Using a carefully selected grayscale palette, the mural features detailed trees, winding branches, and a distant village landscape—all delicately painted to feel both elegant and soothing. The goal was to bring the sophistication of classic French design into a child’s world in a way that still feels warm and imaginative.

Art Meets Interior Design

The mural seamlessly integrates with the room's layout and architecture. Pendant lights are cleverly incorporated into the scene, appearing almost as floating elements among the branches. The forest wraps around sockets, fixtures, and corners, making the artwork feel as though it naturally belongs to the space.

The room’s natural light enhances the subtle textures and shadows within the mural, adding a sense of movement and depth throughout the day. The light grey tones complement the wood flooring and soft textiles, creating a calming, grounded atmosphere for rest and creativity.

Part of a Modern Mural Revival

Murals are no longer confined to public buildings or historical interiors—they are making a beautiful return in contemporary homes, where art and design meet to form deeply personal spaces.

This mural follows in the footsteps of many renowned artists who have shaped the tradition of wall painting:

  • Jean Cocteau – Known for his poetic line drawings and murals in villas and chapels across France.

    ree
  • Pierre Boncompain – Celebrated for his serene, large-scale murals that reflect the warmth of Provence.

  • Marc Chagall - Opera Garnier

    ree
  • David Hockney – While known for his vibrant paintings, his foray into immersive murals shows how fine art can reshape space.

  • Charlotte Mann – A contemporary artist recognized for her hand-drawn black-and-white wall drawings, creating intricate environments from floor to ceiling.

This mural in Limassol is a contemporary take on these traditions, blending fine art, interior design, and childlike wonder in a way that feels both timeless and personal.

Be inspired and build the better future surrounded with art that makes you dream and make the world more joyful.
