Easter Cycle: The Value of Change

This project was created following an invitation from a Cypriot–Lebanese art collector to work with his extraordinary collection of historical Cyprus banknotes. Among them are extremely rare British-issued notes, including specimens that were never released into circulation — currencies that existed “behind the scenes” of the economic system. Having access to this hidden archive allowed me to approach money not as a transaction tool, but as a cultural and psychological artifact.

Created as a cycle for Easter in Limassol, Cyprus (2026), this Easter series integrates these historical banknotes into the form of the egg — a universal symbol of birth, renewal, and life cycles. The egg represents origin and transformation; money represents constructed value, exchange, and collective belief. Just as life evolves through cycles of birth, growth, and change, currency too shifts forms, regimes, and meanings over time.

By placing fragments of rare banknotes onto the fragile yet powerful form of the egg, I explore the tension between permanence and impermanence, material value and symbolic value, history and rebirth. The work reflects on how money changes, how systems rise and fall, and how memory preserves value beyond economic function.

In both life and economy, change is the only constant. The egg becomes a metaphor for renewal — not only of nature, but of history, remembrance, and collective consciousness.
